Scientific Validaton of Anti Diabetic, Anti Dyslipidemic and Anti Oxidant Activities of Siddha Herbal Formulation “Aavarai Poovarisi Chooranam” in Animal Models

This present study, the poly Herbal formulation “Aavarai Poovarisi Chooranam” was taken as the compound drug preparation for Neerizhivu (Diabetes Mellitus) was excerpted from the classical Siddha literature “Mega Nivarana Bodini Ennum Neerizhivu Maruthuvam” Author Hakkim P.M Abdulla Sayabu. ❖ Selection of the trial drug was approved by the screening committee. ❖ Introduction of this thesis elucidate about the Siddha concept Madhumegam compared to the modern aspect of Diabetes mellitus, prevalence of diabetes and role of the test drug in treating diabetes. ❖ Review of literature in various categories was carried out. Siddha aspect, botanical aspect and pharmaceutical review disclosed about the drug and the disease. Pharmacological review was done to establish the methodologies ❖ Systematic identification of trail drug through microscopic and macroscopic method and authenticated by Gunapadam department experts. All the ingredients in the preparation detoxified and SOP was done at Gunapadam Lab. ❖ Drug standardization was done through the physicochemical property, acid and basic radicals, the functional group and nanoparticles were identified by instrumental analysis. ❖ The achieved results of physiochemical, phytochemical, biochemical Screening, sterility test, test for specific pathogen, aflatoxin and pesticide residue will be very useful tool for standardization and quality control assessment of the poly herbal formulation Aavarai poovarisi chooranam. The pH value is measured as 6.5 which indicate that the drug is weekly acidic. The phytochemical analysis reveals the drug APC has high polar secondary metabolites like alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, steroids, phenol, triterpenoids, coumarin, tanins, saponins, sugar, anthocyanin and betacyanin. It proves that the above trial drug Aavarai Poovarisi Chooranam was safe to use as an internal medicine. ❖ Toxicological study was made according to OECD guidelines comprising both acute and sub-acute, and repeated oral dose 28 days toxicity studies in Wistar albino rats. It showed the safety of the drug which attributes its utility in long time administration. ❖ Pharmacological studies were completed. It revealed the anti-diabetic, anti-Dyslipidemic and anti-oxidant activity (in-vitro model) of Aavarai Poovarisi Choornam in Animal model Wistar albino rats. ❖ Conclusion gives a hoarded form of the study and explains the synergistic effect of all the key ingredients and activities that supports the study. ❖ Thus, the poly herbal formulation Aavarai Poovarisi chooranam is validated for its safety and efficacy for treating diabetes mellitus and it would be a great drug of choice. CONCLUSION Diabetes is a chronic disease that possesses a significant public health burden in around the globe. Diabetes treatment most often requires a combination of lifestyle adaptation and medications. ❖ The preclinical studies of Aavarai Poovarisi Chooranam shows that it is safe and efficacious drug to treat Diabetes through various route. The test drug Aavarai Poovarisi Chooranam was found to be in Nano- particle size and pure. The test drug Aavarai Poovarisi Chooranam was standardized with the quality control techniques and also as per the Pharmacopoeia laboratory test specification for Ayush formulation. ❖ Many current commercial drugs fail to fulfill the design requirements of safety, efficacy, cost and storage. The test drug Aavarai Poovarisi Chooranam will endure to fulfil the design requirements, such as: • Safety, as the toxicity profile shows no behavioral changes or death. • Efficacious because of the significant reduction in high blood glucose level in experimental animals. • Cost effective. • Easily storable, does not need any special storage requirements
